Week 4 Theme

1. It was a cold, fall night in the town of Bucksport. Not as cold as it typically is that time of year, though. I was sitting in the stands with my sister and a group of annoying high school girls screaming in my ear. I was sitting on the bleachers wearing a warm Dexter Tigers sweatshirt with my boyfriends jersey over it- number 10.  He was out playing quarter back on the field. It was the quarter final matchup against Bucksport. That was it, do or die. They needed to win this game or else the season would be over. At first they were getting stomped, but just as soon as everyone had counted them out, they came back and tied up the game. From that point on it was a head to head matchup throughout the game. Our team would score a touchdown and take the lead, and as soon as they did, Bucksport had scored after us. It all came down to the final seconds. We needed a field goal to win the game and advance in the playoffs. It was a senior boy who was the kicker and was on point all year with his extra points. However, this field goal was a little further back. Boys on the sidelines shushed the crowd as we all waited for the snap. There it was- a snap, catch, hold, kick and there it went- all the way to the right about 20 feet off the ground and about 5 yards away from the original spot. No good. That was a heartbreaking night for the Tigers on that cold, fall night.

2. It was a cold, fall night in the town of Bucksport. Not as cold as it typically is that time of year, though. I was sitting in the stands with my sister and a group of hot boys cheering behind us.  I was sitting on the bleachers wearing a warm Dexter Tigers sweatshirt with my boyfriends jersey over it- number 10.  He was out playing quarter back on the field. It was the Eastern Maine final matchup against Bucksport. However, this field goal was 20 yards behind the PAT spot. Boys on the sidelines shushed the crowd as we all waited for the snap. There it was- a snap, catch, hold, kick and there it went- all the way to the goal post, it soared so closely and missed the upright by a half an inch. Such a long season had come down to the final seconds, the final few inches and the Tigers had fallen short. It was a heartbreaking loss for them, especially the kicker who served his last play ever with a no-good field goal.

3.  It was a cold, fall night in the city of Portland. Not as cold as it typically is that time of year, though. I was sitting in the stands with my sister with a group of hot boys cheering behind me. I was sitting on the bleachers wearing a warm Dexter Tigers sweatshirt with my boyfriends jersey over it- number 10.  He was out playing quarter back on the field. It was the state final matchup against Winslow. We were undefeated, so were they. That was it, do or die. They needed to win this game or else they wouldn't bring the state championship home. The tigers were winning through the whole game, but just as soon as everyone had counted Winslow out, they came back and tied up the game. From that point on it was a head to head matchup throughout the game. Our team would score a touchdown and take the lead, and as soon as they did, Winslow had scored after us. It all came down to the final seconds. We needed a field goal to win the game and advance in the playoffs. It was a senior boy who was the kicker and was on point all year with his extra points. However, this field goal was a little further back. Boys on the sidelines shushed the crowd as we all waited for the snap. There it was- a snap, catch, hold, kick and there it went- all the way through- 10 feet over the uprights and everyone watched the refs, "The kick is good!" The crowd screamed in unison. The Dexter Tigers are the 2012 state champions! The crowd including me, rushed onto the field to celebrate the amazing victory. After the celebration my boyfriend took me back to his house with a nice dinner waiting and proposed to me. It was a great night for everyone on that cold, fall night in Portland.

  1. Aww, now I feel sorry for you that #3 didn't happen! Dexter rules!

You do a very nice job with all of these: just enough variation and detail in the first two and the final one...well, you were only a feet away from having that actually happen! And interestingly, you recycle the (now winning game against Bucksport) to finish off Winslow! Clever.
